20150616_133110_resized_forwebWhen a family from the Binghamton area sorted their parents’ belongings after they passed away, they had no idea of the surprise that awaited them. Later, they donated clothes and household items to the Goodwill store located at 12 Glenwood Avenue in Binghamton, NY.

Unbeknownst to the donors, their parents had hidden a sizable amount of money in a box containing an appliance they took to Goodwill.

Bridget Peters, a Goodwill specialist, who received the donated items and later processed them, found an envelope with cash hidden in the box as she inspected the appliance. She immediately took the envelope to Stephen Kane, manager of the Goodwill store in Binghamton. Additional information in the envelope helped them track down the donors and return the money.

“I wish to congratulate you for employing 2 of the most honest people in America,” wrote the donor in a Thank-you letter to Goodwill NY-NJ. “I was stunned and flabbergasted to receive that cash back and by the honesty and integrity of Stephen and Bridget. You are fortunate to have employees of that caliber.”

Big kudos to Stephen and Bridget who work at our Binghamton Goodwill store!
