As students complete reports and finals, go to proms, prepare for graduation and many of the end of school Year rituals, our rugby team and step team are busy winning competitions. Here’s a follow-up to our Where the Goodwill Goes blog posted on May 14.
Goodwill Rugby Team Wins AIG Cup
We are very excited because Goodwill NY-NJ’s Rugby team, Queens Vocational Tigers RFC, took home the plate in the AIG Cup on June 6! The students from Goodwill’s program at Queens Vocational & Technical -Community School played four games. They won a nail-biter in overtime in the plate finals with a score of 4-3.
“We all are very proud of the students and their hard work,” Rob Mesika, member of the Gotham Knights who started the rugby program at Goodwill this year. “The boys couldn’t be more excited to take home a trophy. They said it was one of the few their school had ever won.”
In 2015, the Gotham Knights rugby team selected Goodwill NY-NJ to provide leadership to start a rugby training program in two schools where Goodwill offers services in Long Island City, Queens.
