From the Goodwill family to yours we want to wish you all a happy and safe Holiday weekend.

We want to thank you all for your continuous support of our mission. With your help, we were able to serve 77,940 people and place 6,700 individuals in jobs in 2013.

When you shop at our Goodwill stores, you help us fund the programs that serve your community. We are grateful for your purchases. In times of decreased public funding, we rely on your financial and in-kind donations.

This week we held our traditional Thanksgiving Day luncheon. For over twenty years, staff members from all departments traditionally serve meals to guests at our Astoria and Harrison, New Jersey headquarters. This year, we had a special guest at Harrison, Assistant Commissioner Jeffrey Stoller from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. This is an opportunity for our participants to socialize with their peers and staff alike. For some of them, Goodwill staff is their only support system. We want to make sure every program participant has an opportunity to feel at home here at Goodwill.

On Thanksgiving 2005, a Holiday tradition at Goodwill’s Astoria headquarters began when New York State Assembly member Cathy Nolan asked our Goodwill to distribute turkeys for senior residents on her behalf. Our Youth and Community Development division invites elderly residents from the Two Coves community to join our program participants for Goodwill’s Thanksgiving luncheon.

Check out pictures of the luncheon here.

Please note, our stores will be closed today so that our employees may spend time with their friends and family. We will reopen tomorrow with great specials all weekend long.

Have a healthy and happy Holiday and travel safely!
