Did you ever see that movie Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John? If you haven’t, check it out. It premiered during the summer of ‘78. The soundtrack was awesome. Why do I bring this up? Well, Goodwill’s COMPASS (Comprehensive After School System – formerly OST) 157 in Brooklyn held a Carnival to close the summer session with a bang on August 14.

And that’s how Grease ends: With all the high school kids in a carnival. Remember that scene with Olivia Newton-John, a.k.a. Sandy, all dolled-up ala 50’s bad girl, hair up, tight tight black pants and shirt and high mules. Oh! And she was smoking! So she and Travolta, a.k.a. Danny, sing the second to last song: “You Are The One That I Want.” But I digress.

Ours was the 21st Century version of the Grease carnival. Lots of fun.

More than 100 students, parents, staff, and guests participated in the carnival. Food and activities included hot dogs, cotton candy, face painting, glitter tattoos, slushies, and snow cones. Students played in the bouncy houses and participated in games with prizes such as a duck pond.

COMPASS 157 wrapped the summer up with this carnival. This was an opportunity to have a blast with the kids one more time and to thank everyone for participating in the Goodwill program.
