As Labor Day approaches, we sense the end of summer and return to school. Although sad, students from Goodwill’s Out of School Time program at I.S. 145 in Jackson Heights, Queens, decided to end the summer on a high note with a Fashion Show and Dance Performance.
More than ninety attendees gathered at the I.S. 145 school auditorium on Thursday, August 14 to applaud the creative and talented students. Parents and family members, Goodwill and I.S. 145 school staff, and students from other summer programs, marveled at the twenty-five students who modeled their own creations and the thirteen students who participated in the dance performance.
Male and female students from the Eco-Fashion class repurposed old clothing items and turned them into trendy and fashionable pieces. They used clothes from their own wardrobe, or clothes bought at the dollar store or donated by teachers. The dance troupe performed a choreography that included a series of songs they had practiced over the summer.
