Whether in Queens or Brooklyn, students participating in Goodwill programs have been busy at work. Here’s an update of different activities in three of our programs.

Beacon 149 Community Club
Earlier this year, our Beacon program at P.S. 149 in Jackson Heights, Queens held a food drive to help families in need. The students formed the Community Club to partner with Move for Hunger. Lead by Jackie Chirinos, the students worked on making flyers and using gorilla marketing to spread the word on the project and to get the community involved. Their hard work paid off! In total they collected 180 pounds of food, which could provide 150 meals for families in their neighborhood.

Beacon 109
Back in February, we announced that Beacon 109 would hold a fine arts program on Saturdays. The program has been now running 3 months strong and the kids are having a blast learning new things. Click here to see students bringing out their inner dj’s and learning how to use the turntables and other electronic equipment to create their own sound.
