The Commute Screening

It’s Monday morning rush hour and you are on the subway on your way to work. The conductor announces that the elevator in your stop is out of order. If you use a wheelchair, you are out of luck. You will need to find an alternative and be late for work for sure.

Have you ever stopped to think how a person with physical or developmental disabilities must react to disruptions in the public transportation system? It is hard and annoying for a person without disabilities to find transportation alternatives. This is not as easy for a visually impaired person or a person who uses a wheelchair for instance.

On Monday, March 24, our Goodwill will host a private screening and reception to celebrate the premiere of The Commute,” a short film that explores the challenges that an individual with disabilities faces while using public transportation.

The Commute was produced by Goodwill Industries of Greater NY and Northern NJ, Inc. and Rabbit Content Productions.

According to Goodwill’s President and CEO, William J. Forrester, “Ensuring that the people we serve can safely travel to work is an extension of our mission. Once we find employment for job-seekers, we provide what they need to succeed at work. Some time that means finding housing, child care, health, and the proper transportation resources.”

The Commute was directed by Jake Alexander, a commercial director with Rabbit who has produced video content for over a decade. He captures characters’ emotions and is drawn to work that celebrates the urban experience. He has worked with famed film director Spike Lee and brands such as Adidas and Nike.

Rabbit, an international production company, represents a diverse collective of directors, producers, designers, animators, VFX artists and brand experience builders. Rabbit uses emerging media to craft relevant and entertaining content across multiple digital platforms to inspire conversation and build meaningful relationships between people and brands.

Next week, we’ll post on the Goodwill website a link to the short film. We’d love to hear what you think!
