Two weeks ago, right before Valentine’s Day, we mentioned here our newest program, Operation: GoodJobs which serves U.S. Veterans. Let us expand on this topic:
Did you know that $112 buys a Metrocard for a U.S. Veteran who is just starting a new job?
Think of a person who has not worked in a few weeks, or even years for having to serve her or his country abroad. When they come back to the workforce, they have nothing: they lack even the most basic things to get to work, as basic as professional clothing and transportation. How will they get to work if they have to save all they can to eat and find a place to live?
For this reason, Goodwill’s Operation: GoodJobs arms our Vets with a Metrocard to travel to work. We have to give them the most basic tools to ensure they will succeed at work.
Operation: GoodJobs provides a holistic integration of career services with family and financial strengthening services for United States Veterans and family Members, including post-9/11 U.S. Veterans, female Veterans, 18-26 year-old Veterans, National Guard and Reservists.
OGJ offers career assessment, individualized career planning, job training and accreditation, financial education, job placement and career advancement services, transitional services, family support services, assistance with early education and child care, support for spouse and other family members.
If your company would like to partner with Goodwill in serving Vets or if you are a Vet who needs services and live in the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey, please contact the number below.
Want to learn more about Goodwill’s Operation: GoodJobs or want to donate anything, and we mean anything to give Vets the gift of work, please contact Martha Jackson, the program director, at (718) 361-5415 or OGJ@goodwillnynj.org
