Goodwill NY-NJ operates three afterschool programs for youth and children in Brooklyn. Today, we’ll feature the Out of School Time program at P.S. 157.
The OST program provides enriching activities for any K-5 grade student living in New York City. It operates Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., and on selected holidays, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Activities include literacy, homework help, math and science projects, cooking, and physical activities. In addition, students go on fun trips to museums, movie shows and more.
Recently, Goodwill’s OST 157 program held a workshop, “Spin Pop, Boom,” lead by Mad Science, a science enrichment provider. Students got the opportunity to participate in a myriad of amazing experiments. For instance, students used acetone to “melt” Styrofoam cups. They also learned how to change acid solutions to basic ones, and vise versa. Youth worked in all experiments under the supervision of a scientist who lead the workshop.
“The kids had a blast!” says OST 157 Program Director Leah McClain. “They also learned of the importance of carefully listening to a leader and respect their knowledge.”
Goodwill NY-NJ has offered afterschool programs for children and youth in our communities since 1996. Today, we operate programs in 11 locations in Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx.
