Thanks to the generosity of the thousands of customers who rounded-up their purchases at our Goodwill stores, we collected $7,167 to help the residents of the Southern Philippines islands whose lives were turned upside down by the disaster. Starting on November 22 and for the next 30 days, Goodwill staff asked shoppers if they wanted to participate in the relief.
Goodwill sent 100% of the donations collected to the International Rescue Committee. The IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Water and sanitation systems were broken or flooded, increasing the health risk for already vulnerable families from the Philippines. IRC had teams there helping the hundreds of thousands of people that had lost their homes and villages. Your donations helped achieve this goal!
We are proud to say that our customers have always responded to help those in need. In 2012, thousands rushed to donate goods for area residents affected by Superstorm Sandy. Volunteers helped sort donations in the three processing centers Goodwill established for this purpose. Before that, Goodwill helped New Orleans residents during hurricane Katrina and later the people of Haiti after the earthquake that hit that country a few years ago.
Thanks for an amazing team work!
