This year, we are very excited to partner with the ING New York City marathon in more than one way:
For the past two weeks, staff and program participants from our Astoria Work Center have been hard at work putting together the goodie bags for the more than 50 thousand runners who will participate in the internationally renown event. They are including the last item in the bags as we speak: fresh delicious apples from an upstate NY farm.
Watch Goodwillers filling up the marathon bags with goodies on ABC’s “Countdown to the Starting Line” Tomorrow, Saturday from 7:30 to 8 p.m. And if you miss it, watch the 11 p.m. news tomorrow to be the first to see what the bags look like.
In addition, 200 staff and program participants will volunteer to pick up the track suits and other clothing the runners will shed at the starting line to keep warm before the race. The clothing will be sold at our Goodwill stores to benefit our services An all around win-win for all – The runners, Goodwill, and the community!
