It’s spring and it’s time to spring into action! We’re asking you to ask your NYS legislators to stop cuts to programs for people with developmental disabilities.

Help save OPWDD Medicaid funding & help others in your community live meaningful, productive lives!

New York State legislators propose a reduction of 6% from the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Medicaid funding. Don’t let this happen!

This cut, if not avoided, will affect the quality of life of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, individuals who are most in need of important supports and services by agencies that employ over 75,000 direct support professionals throughout the state.

Please use the link below to find your legislators and tell Governor Andrew Cuomo, and your NYS senator and Assemblymember not to cut OPWDD Medicaid funds!

Here’s a sample of what you can say:

“As a taxpayer living in your district, I am calling to ask that you not cut any funding from New York State’s OPWDD programs that serve persons with developmental disabilities. Please do not allow the proposed 6% cut to happen.”

To make a real difference now:

  • Find your representatives at:
  • Click the “Take Action Now” link
  • Press the big, orange button that says “ACT NOW”

Ensure that these programs continue to support individuals who otherwise would have to stay home unemployed and rely on family members and public assistance. At the end, the impact goes beyond the individuals with disabilities and the staff who serves them, but extends to family members and the community.

Help stop cuts to programs that help your neighbors, friends and family members!
