Last year was filled with success, and we’re looking forward to a New Year full of opportunities for all.

To welcome in 2013, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey Inc.’s President and CEO William J. Forrester took a look all that happened in 2012:

I would first like to offer our heartfelt support to the many New Yorkers who suffered tremendous loss due to Hurricane Sandy. Goodwill is working with individuals and organizations from across the country to receive and distribute donated goods and services. We will continue to provide assistance and work with other relief agencies to help our fellow citizens for as long as needed.

For more than 35 years, New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID), a nonprofit advocacy organization, has advanced employment for New Yorkers with disabilities. This year we were very proud to accept its prestigious Member Agency of the Year Award for our agency and temporary staffing division, Good Temps. Congratulations to Curt Thompson, Employee of the Year and Jeffrey Miller for the William B. Joslin Outstanding Performer Award.

Earlier this year we hosted the first 360 on Jobs Forum. We were honored to have Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of ETA Department of Labor, speak to our audience of service providers, public and private sector stakeholders and others who are working to help move people to employment. Economists from Drexel and Georgetown Universities provided a comprehensive view of the current economic landscape and implications for the future. Representatives from key foundations shared what their organizations are doing to support non profits and how their concerns for the economy have been important in guiding strategies to meet this issue head on. We plan a series of follow up meetings  with local economists, foundations and nonprofits to continue the discussion on real time strategies designed to move people to independence through the power of work.

We are excited about the launch of our new website and invite you to take a look at, I think you will enjoy meeting some of the people we serve and learn about the work we do.

Finally I want to thank our generous donors for their continued support in helping us accomplish our mission – moving people to independence through the power of work!

Happy New Year!

William J. Forrester
President and CEO
