Great news, Goodwill fans! We’re very proud to announce that GoodwillNyNj will partner with the ING New York City Marathon this year, working to allow runners to donate their cast-offs, helping their community while participating in a famous NYC event.
In a shared commitment to giving back to the local community, New York Road Runners (NYRR) will enter into a new partnership and initiative with New York/New Jersey Goodwill Industries and UPS to work with Wearable Collections, NYRR’s partner in 2011, to collect discarded clothing, much of which will be distributed and sold at Goodwill stores throughout the greater New York area.
The sale of goods in Goodwill retail stores supports the Goodwill mission – getting people ready for and connected to jobs – and the clothing collected at the Marathon will contribute to that effort. You will still see UPS in full force on race day. UPS will be present at the start, supplying staff, volunteers, and numerous trucks to help collect the clothing with Goodwill Industries. More details are availible on the ING NYC Marathon’s website at www.ingnycmarathon.org/entrantinfo/baggage_policy.htm.
If you’re running in the NYC Marathon or plan to cheer on participating friends and family, pat yourself on the back: you’re also supporting job seekers and community members throughout the Greater New York and Northern New Jersey area. Thank you!
