Your donations change lives. Want proof? You got it! Meet Bridgette Correa, a Beacon scholar who, thanks to Goodwill’s program (made possible by your donations) and her own considerable smarts, was named Valedictorian of her Senior Class.

Beacon 10, a Goodwill program, creates a safe, nurturing space for local kids to make friends, do homework and learn the emotional and social skills they’ll need to lead successful, rewarding lives. All of us here at Beacon 10 and Goodwill of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey couldn’t be more proud. Well done, Bridgette!

Bridgette Correa was selected as Valedictorian of her Senior Class - congratulations, Bridgette!

With Beacon behind her, we know Bridgette is on the path to success – a path filled with opportunities to help others. A recent graduate of American Studies High School, Bridgette used to be a Beacon participant at IS 10, then a volunteer and is now seeking employment with the Beacon program.

Bridgette has applied to numerous colleges in New York including Hunter College and Stony Brook University. She has developed a passion for Forensic Science and one day hopes to have a fulfilling career in that field.

Beacon has played an important part in her early life, providing her with role models and the space to lay the foundation for dreams. At Beacon, Bridgette says she encountered several intelligent employees who were going to school and had jobs with the program.

When asked who her role model was, she replied, “Ms. Yolanda [the program director of Beacon 10]. She has a lot of interest in children. She has such a good heart and always has a smile on her face. She has helped me grow into the person I am today and for this I am thankful to her.”

The Youth Services Department at Beacon along with all of us here at Goodwill wish Bridgette the best in all of her future endeavors.

Beacons are school-based community centers serving children, youth, and adults. There are currently 80 Beacons located throughout New York City, five of which are operated by the Youth Services Division of Goodwill Industries, and all of which operate in the afternoons and evenings, on weekends, during school holidays, vacation periods, and during the summer.
