With Thanksgiving days away, we’re full of gratitude. One thing we’re especially grateful for this year: our clients and staff. With your support, we were able to greet National Disability Employment Awareness Month as a time of celebration, a chance to show off the incredible things people can do with opportunity, understanding and the power of work.
Last month, Goodwill’s New Jersey Division marked National Disability Employment Awareness Month October 16 with its traditional “Walk Around the Block.” Clients and staff from all departments of the Harrison program center participated in the eighth year of the annual event.
Kirsten Giardi, New Jersey Division vice president, led the walk to raise community awareness and support for employment of persons with disabilities. Harrison Mayor Raymond J. McDonough has consistently supported the event, and representatives from the Mayor’s office joined Goodwill in walking.
“This is the third time I’ve participated in the walk,” comments vocational evaluator Deborah Francis. “All our clients support each other, pushing their friends in wheelchairs and guiding visually impaired clients.” Ms. Francis reports that the New Jersey clients are excited to take part and happy to join their co-workers to walk as a group.
Happy Holidays, all!
